Happy Birthday, Obadiah!

I can't believe my little boy is already one year old.  He is growing up so fast!

A week before Obi's birthday, we had our first freeze and snow.  Afterward, I pulled the last bit of produce from the garden.  Obi is "helping".

Dassah is pretending to cut down a tree with a trowel.

Picking some marigolds

What a handsome little boy.

Posing with some pumpkins from the garden.

Dassah gets a picture with the pumpkins too.

My two sweethearts.

We discovered that a CD made a rainbow on the ceiling.  Upon going over to look at it, it made a rainbow on Dassah.

A wearable blanket I made.  Turning it around backward makes it look like a baby trench coat.

My little helpers, helping wash dishes.

We have two hens mature enough to lay eggs.  One lays brown eggs, and the other lays green.

On Obadiah's birthday, I pulled out one of Mike's backdrops and took pictures of him.  This red backdrop really makes his hair appear red.

Dassah had to get in on a few pictures.

While we took pictures, Simon sat on top the backdrop and gave himself a bath.

Obi's birthday cake

He kept trying to grab the candle or stick his fingers in it.

Obi didn't eat much.  He played with it a little bit and then dumped his plate.

Dassah enjoyed it though.

Time to open presents!

Wow! A cool truck!

Cute bed head.

Obi likes to read to himself.

Children and Chickens

I intended to post several weeks ago, I just didn't get around to it.

We returned from vacation and noticed several of our garden vegetables were ready for harvest.

Dassah helped pull up some carrots, but was done with the carrots by the time I brought the camera out for a picture.

Obi inspected the carrots.

Obi checking out the sunflower head.  I wanted to try roasting the seeds.

This is Dassah's favorite chicken.

Obi has to stay outside the chicken pen.  Otherwise, he tries to eat chicken poop.

Chicken Soup

Since six of our eight chickens were roosters, we ordered some baby chicks through the mail.  We ordered twenty-one.  Five of them would go to our neighbor.    We didn't realized it took an extra day to get to here, though, so the chicks were right at the edge of their viability.  We had a pretty high mortality rate.  The next time we order, we'll have them delivered to the post office in a near-by town.

Dassah was excited about her baby chicks.

We ordered a mixed batch of brown egg layers.

They are so cute at just a couple days old.

I had to get a picture of Obi with the new chicks, too.

Another picture of baby chicks

A close up!

Dassah says she drew Gramama.

For a couple weeks, we had a bat sleeping on our porch, wedged between the ceiling and the trim.

How many kids can we fit on that swing?
A huge grasshopper I found on our pumpkin vine.

A picture with my thumb for comparison.  I tossed it to the chickens.  The chickens LOVED it.

Chicken Stew

Three of our roosters

Red Rooster looking curious

A tea party with friends.  I watch these three boys four days out of the week while their mom is in class.

What a cutie!

Cool kids swinging.

Painting is always fun to do.

Obi helped me shuck some corn.

What a pretty girl!

Peek-a-boo!

Our chicks are growing up fast!  They're one month old in this picture.

Mike's favorite; a buff Bantam

Obi likes to pick green tomatoes right off the vine and eat them.

We ended up with seven chicks.  Here they are enjoying the chance to explore the garden while the kids try to play with them.

Scratching at the dirt

looking for bugs and taking dirt baths.

Mike had a messy job to do.  We put Dassah down for a nap and occupied Obi with a little water in the pool.

Here's the messy job: butchering chickens.  We ended up placing five of the six roosters in our freezer.

I mostly kept Obi entertained and watched Mike.

Swinging a chicken around to get him to stop struggling.

Obi and Dassah decided to empty out my baking cabinet and drawers.

Yee haw!  Ride'em cowboy!

Obi loves to climb

One cold day, we built a huge tent fort in the playroom

Doing school.  Look at how well she colors in the lines!

Playing piano!  Obi loves anything with noise.

Swinging

The one rooster we didn't butcher.  He's a handsome one.

Our baby chicks again.

The barred chicks are very curious

Dassah's favorite chicken again.

Who can resist such an adorable boy!  He started walking all over just a week or so before this picture.

Did I mention he loves to climb?

In school we were learning about how God made the air and the clouds.  We then made a cloud picture.

Simon is in the window!

Mommy's little helper

Dassah's flying!  Obi says he wants to, as well.  Their friend says, "How do I get down?"

Obi was sleeping on the couch.  I was trying to get a picture of the curls on the back of his head.

Not sure if this food is worth eating.

Obi loves sour cream.

Obi dumped some cocoa powder all over the floor, then decided he needed to do a head stand in it.

"I'm not messy enough, Mom!  Why are you trying to sweep it up?"

.

Now a few pictures from Mike's phone.

Obi found a box to play in.

A potato that looks like a duck!

Hadassah

Dassah loves her Daddy.

Weeee!  So fun!

I sing in the "praise team" at church.  Dassah decided to join me.  Everyone compliments her on her singing afterwards.

A little fire fighter!
